Choosing a Wedding Photographer
If you are in the market for a new DC wedding photographer, it can be difficult to know where to start. Whether you want to hire an experienced professional, or just someone who’s done one or two weddings before, the question will naturally come up about which photographers you should hire.
When I first started thinking about who should be my DC wedding photographer, I realized that I needed to make some decisions early on. Ideally, I would like to choose someone who’s either very busy, or who’s relatively new to the industry. But that wedding photographers fit those criteria?
Cameras. Many people will usually go for a Canon or Nikon. I would suggest against this, as not everyone has used the brand, and a newer camera could be more expensive. If your budget allows, stick with what you’re familiar with. Your family might have more experience with wedding photography and could help you make your decision.
Experience. What’s the point of going with someone who hasn’t been doing weddings for years? Unless you’re really sure of what you’re getting yourself into, it makes sense to pick someone who’s been doing weddings for more than five years. This allows you to get better value from your money.
The last thing I look for is their job description. It’s my hope that I’ll be able to pick up the phone and call them if I have a problem or need something. Sometimes, however, it’s easier to just book through the site.
Service level. Sometimes, even the best photographers are only willing to work at a certain price level. What should you expect from your DC wedding photographer?
Extra service is something I always prefer. You should never settle for less, especially when the job at hand is important. Even if they’re offering to do the whole wedding, but ask for one part or another and refuse to do it unless they get paid.
To summarize, I recommend that you look for a wedding photographer that offers at least a year of experience. If you’re going for something pretty basic, this should suffice.
