AFAP'S HISTORY
In
July 2003, with the initiative of Angelo delos Angeles,
whom everybody calls Governor and who now serves as acting
president of AFAP, the birth of the Association of Filipino-American
Pelotaris came about. The idea of coming up with a name
came by accident when he thought of having a website created
for the group of pelotary players which he belongs to.
His idea of having a website and creating a name was delightfully
welcomed by his colleagues and with much enthusiasm, everybody
gave inputs for the betterment of their website and the
association as a whole and the rest they say is history.
The
Association of Filipino-American Pelotaris consists of ex-pros
as well as highly qualified amateur pelotary players. These players
have been together for many years and come from the Philippines
and other countries. Many of the players if not all, had the pleasure
of playing at the American Amateur Jai-Alai in Milford, Ct. However,
sometime in 2002, the Milford fronton closed and the players had
been forced to endure difficult circumstances to keep playing
the game they love so much. Because of Milford's closure, the
players must play outdoors. This is a group of highly motivated
professionals from all walks of life who come together to play
jai-alai whenever the weather permits. The weekend get-togethers
represent opportunities for playing their game as well as socializing.
The players have stayed together and grown for many years despite
the difficult circumstances. The players are highly hopeful that
one day, in the future, there will again be an indoor facility
for them.
Presently, there are 31 active members and the group is
open to new members. |
